At Ambridge Rose, we have always believed caring for our residents should extend to the wider community that surrounds our facilities.
Dementia care is fundamentally about creating connections. Our work centers on belonging and reassuring every person in our care that they are seen, valued, and part of the Ambridge Rose community. This philosophy shapes everything we do.
We are dedicated to community outreach in our local East Auckland area, into local charities, and into the lives of the people and organisations that make our area a special place to call home.
Supporting local charities and good causes
From food drives to fundraising, the Ambridge Rose community supports a variety of local charities that make a tangible difference across East Auckland.
We recently fundraised for MS New Zealand, raising money to support research and the many New Zealanders living with multiple sclerosis. Morning teas, donation drives, and shared fundraising moments bring our community together around something that genuinely matters.
We also celebrate Daffodil Day each year with yellow-themed activities, baking, and collections in support of the Cancer Society. Our residents take real pride in participating, and the day always brings warmth and energy to our care homes.
We also regularly welcome The Brownies (Girl Guiding NZ) to our facilities, with their visits filling our hallways with laughter and leaving our residents genuinely delighted.

Providing opportunities to the next generations of our health sector
We’re pleased to work with local colleges to provide opportunities to senior students as they look to forge a career in the healthcare sector. In April, we welcomed six students from Botany Downs Secondary College to placements at The Manor via the Gateway Programme – a government-funded initiative helping students transition into the workforce.
It’s a great opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare to get a real feel for the sector and achieve NCEA credits or other qualifications as they train.
Reaching out to the people around us
In December, we take themed sweet treats and deliver them personally to local emergency services. It’s a small, practical way to say thank you to the people who will spend the holiday period out in our community, helping to keep our locals safe.
We also partner with All Saints Church Howick to take part in their Christmas Food Drive, donating goods that go directly to families facing hardship at Christmas time in the region. Our staff often enjoy putting together care boxes, knowing that generosity from our incredible Ambridge Rose community reaches our neighbours who need it most.
What these initiatives mean for our residents
When the Ambridge Rose community packs food donations or gathers for a fundraising morning tea, residents feel like they’re contributing in a meaningful way. The act of giving something to the world around them brings a sense of purpose, joy and participation.
Our longstanding partnership with Youth Project NZ, which has now developed into sponsoring the worthy cause, provides a meaningful connection with young people in the area. We believe helping young people connect with the older generation can help encourage and develop the next generation of civic leaders and helps create a lively community. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with local schools through arts and crafts, gifting and more.
Our residents always light up with these initiatives, and our staff and residents have been the happy recipients of many handmade cards and gifts which hang in our shared spaces.
A care home that’s part of the fabric of East Auckland
The Ambridge Rose community is East Auckland’s community. We’re incredibly proud of our role in helping to grow our local connections and give back to our community. If your local group or charity would like to connect with the Ambridge Rose community, we would love to hear from you.
