Doreen Sami

Working with older adults has been my passion since 2003. After completing my Registered Nurse training at Wintec, I began my career at The Manor – which at the time was a small aged-care facility where the staff had multiple roles. I even worked as a kitchen-hand on Sundays!

As The Manor expanded and started providing more private hospital care, my nursing career grew, and I became a Senior Registered Nurse. Later, I was promoted to the Clinical Manager / RN, where I was responsible for all clinical aspects of residents’ care.

In 2020, I became the Nurse Manager / RN at The Villa in Pakuranga. Here we specialise in dementia care. My role involves extensive contact with families and guardians. Day to day, I manage the team, resident medications, care plans, and GP rounds. As well as liaising with the doctor, I work closely with the dietitian, podiatrist, and other external medical specialists to ensure that best care for our residents.

I enjoy being a Nurse Manager / RN at The Villa. It is a busy little rest home, and I welcome contact from family members to discuss anything about their loved one’s care.

When I’m not working, I spend time with my two sons, and I’m also famous in the Ambridge Rose extended family for my exceptional chicken curry. But don’t ask me for the recipe, it’s a carefully guarded secret!
