We welcome the appointment of Allan Sargeant, Ambridge Rose CEO as advisor to the Aged Care Ministerial Advisory Group.
The group serves to provide independent, expert advice on long-term sector reform, which aims to provide recommendations to the government around three key areas:
- The funding model needed to support sustainable services, particularly a sustainable supply of standard aged care beds
- How the costs of providing aged care could be reasonably shared between those receiving care and the Government
- The changes needed to contracting arrangements and regulatory settings for aged care services, to remove red tape, support cost-effective delivery of services, support service innovation, and increase cohesion and integration between aged care services, wider health services, and Disability Support Services.
Allan joins nine other industry experts, leaders, aged care providers and more as part of the Advisory Group, which will provide advice and recommendations to ministers by mid-2026.
“I feel very honoured to be appointed as an Advisor to the Aged Care Advisory Group and work alongside some of the industry’s best experts, care providers, and others,” said Allan.
Associate Health Minister Casey Costello outlined the Group’s objective as needing to identify the changes needed to the aged care funding model in order to build a sustainable system and one that is easier for people to access and navigate.
Allan said he looks forward to collaborating with other industry leaders and identifying necessary changes to the aged care funding model, which already cares for more than 115,000 older New Zealanders who access aged care services each year.
“I’m looking forward to contributing to sensible, sustainable solutions to aged care funding here in New Zealand, and providing advice on the best approach to delivering quality, cost-effective aged care that meets the needs of our ageing population.”
